"The Ultimate Cheat Sheet For Fridges
How to Keep Your Fridge Running Smoothly
Fridges come in a wide range of shapes and sizes. They can be a perfect fit in small spaces including dorms.
Certain models can be used with smart devices. They allow you to monitor your fridge remotely and fix any issues that may arise. You can also control them using voice commands.
Noise
Refrigerators produce a variety of noises while they are operating. Certain noises are more prominent than others. Before calling a repair company, try to identify the cause of any noises you hear.
Rattling
The sound of a refrigerator rattling could be caused by there's not enough space between the fridge and wall or cabinet, or when it's positioned at an unbalanced angle. It's simple to solve. It's all you need to do is ensure that there's at least two inches between the fridge and the wall or cabinet, or you can adjust the leveling legs or frydge screws to raise or lower your fridge.
Hissing
The compressor can make a noise when cooling your food. This is a typical sound that is caused by refrigerant or compressor fluid moving through the system. If you're worried, count how often the compressor cycles and call a refrigerator repair service immediately when it happens more often than normal.
Squeaking
Refrigerators can be noisy when their fans or coils are filthy. If you hear a squeaking sound coming from your fridge, use an attachment for a vacuum cleaner or a rag along with water or dish soap and warm water to clean the coils and fan. This should be done at least twice each year, or more often when your refrigerator is old or heavily used.
Clicking
A click sound can be heard from a fridge. This is usually due to freezing around the fan of the freezer. Defrosting by hand can fix the issue, but it will return until a professional is brought in.
If you hear clicking, turn the refrigerator back on. This sound can also be caused by the Ice maker if you have one attached to the fridge, so it's crucial to ensure that it's turned off when you don't require an ice maker that is constantly running.
The hum of your refrigerator is normal, and it can be a bit louder at certain periods of the day or following large quantities of stock or freezing operations. The refrigerator is working harder to keep your food cool, and therefore it is working faster. This isn't an indication of an issue.
Dust
Dust in the house attracts dirt, bacteria and other microorganisms, as well as traces of the everyday exposure to chemicals in our homes. The tiny particles can be inhaled and elicit allergic reactions, and can provide a great environment for microbes to thrive including those that could cause infections if they come in contact with wounds that are open.
It's impossible to clean a fridge entirely but regular cleaning will help to reduce dust build-up and keep the temperature constant. A dirty fridge is a waste of energy because it overheats, and is inefficient. If you suspect that your refrigerator is making louder noises than normal, or is running out of power due to overworking it, it might be time to call in experts.
Dust doesn't float into the air from the outside as is commonly thought. It's made up of resuspended soil from the house and is often contaminated with lead and other toxic substances, along with pollen, mold spores, and car exhaust. It also contains a number of legacy pollutants, including DDT which was banned more than 50 years ago.
Certain compounds, such as flame retardants such as decabromodiphenylether are able to dissolve into the air. However, the majority chemicals found in house dust are derived from objects that have been knocked off, such as electronic equipment. High-molecular-weight substances, such as surfactants used in cleaners and paint strippers, also migrate directly into dust.
Apart from contaminating the food in the refrigerator, a smoky refrigerator can also affect your health. It can harbor allergens, like pet dander and the droppings of cockroaches, which can trigger asthma and allergies in many people. It can also contain bacterial spores, such as staphylococcus aureus, that can cause infections if they find their way into wounds that are open.
Researchers have found that dust pollution is associated with a wide variety of health issues that include cancer, cardiovascular disease, leukemia, and inflammatory intestinal diseases. A recent study revealed that the homes of children with leukemia were more likely to have higher levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, PBDEs and PCBs in their dust than the homes of healthy kids.
Condenser Coils
When refrigerators run properly, the coils on the front and back of the appliance are supposed to disperse heat generated by the compressor. If these radiator-like parts are covered in dust, pet hair or lint the compressor Frydge has to work hard trying to cool the refrigerator, which wears down the unit. That's why it's important to keep the coils clean.
If you're planning to tackle the task yourself it is recommended you unplug the refrigerator from its outlet and turn off its power supply prior to beginning. This can reduce the risk of electrocuting yourself or family members when working on the appliance. It is also an excellent idea to wear a protective mask if you are sensitive to dust. You will then need to locate the coils. The coils are typically located at the back of the refrigerator or, in certain cases, on the front and at the base. If you're not sure where to locate them, consult your fridge freezer for sale's owner manual or contact the manufacturer for more details.
Once you've located the coils, you'll need to remove the access panel if you have one. Then, alternate between vacuuming the coils with an attachment for a narrow hose and rubbing them with a condenser coil cleaning brush. It is important to be patient when doing this to avoid bending or damaging the coils. After that, replace the kick panel or push the fridge into place and plug it into.
If you aren't comfortable doing this yourself, then you could always seek out an expert. It's cheaper and easier to maintain the cleaning routine in order to avoid the issue.
Maintenance
Refrigerators are durable appliances that keep running all day and at night to cool your food. They require regular maintenance to ensure they accomplish their task effectively. Simple preventive maintenance will ensure that your machines run smoothly for a long time.
One simple thing to do is clean the door seals. The gaskets may become clogged with jelly and other food items that stick and allow cool air to escape through tiny gaps. Clean them off with a solution of baking soda and warm water on a sponge or toothbrush every couple of months.
Another place to check for issues is the fan in the back of the fridge. It can get noisy when it's blocked by paper, insulation and even a mouse (gasp). Unplug the refrigerator and take it off all the shelves and take out any removable parts. Vacuum cleaners equipped with connections for hoses are a great option to clean the coils and the area around them. Make sure that you switch the fridge back on when you're done.
It is best to refer to the owner's manual to find out more on how to locate the coils and the fan and what sort of cleaning tools you might need. It's recommended to read the warranty carefully to make sure you know what is and isn't covered.
